The International Automotive Task Force (IATF) will publish a new ISO/TS 16949 standard for the global automotive industry, one of the most widely used international standards for quality management in the automotive industry.

ISO/TS 16949 Technical Specification for Quality Management Systems for the Automotive Industry, first created in 1999 by Quality Management in conjunction with ISO's Technical Committee IATF, ISO/TC 176. Since then, it has risen to one of the most widely used international standards in the automotive industry, designed to harmonize different assessment and certification systems across the global automotive supply chain.

IATF 16949:2016 will be published in October 2016, and the new standard issued by IATF will replace the current ISO/TS 16949 which is the organizational requirements for quality management systems in the automotive industry. IATF 16949:2016 refers to the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, the latest version of the ISO quality management system standard, and fully respects the structure and requirements of ISO 9001:2015. IATF 16949:2016 is not a stand-alone quality management standard, but is implemented as a supplement to the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 edition of the standard.
