Currently, ISO 28005 Ships and Navigation Technology - Computer Applications - Electronic Port Clearance is under development and will be the last standard in the series when published.

Alan Brydon, ISO Secretary-General, said: “Risks in international markets know no borders. The ISO 28000 standard is designed to provide solutions to these global problems. Through a globally recognized safety management system, supply chain stakeholders can ensure goods through and personnel safety to facilitate international trade, thereby benefiting the whole society." The standard can be applied to all levels of transportation involving production, service, storage, transportation and other stages. The standard series includes:

Establish, implement, maintain and improve the supply chain safety management system;

Ensuring compliance with safety management policies;

demonstrate compliance;

Seek compliance certification through a third-party certification body; or

Compliance self-identification.

Recently, ISO has published the following standards:

ISO 28001:2007 Supply chain security management systems — Best practices for implementing supply chain security — Requirements and guidance for assessment and planning;

ISO 28003:2007 Supply chain security management systems—Requirements for organizations that audit and certify supply chain security management systems;

ISO 28004:2007 Supply Chain Security Management System - Guidelines for the Application of SO28000.

The ISO 28000 standard can facilitate cross-border trade and the transportation of goods. The standard will enhance the organization's effective strategy and operational phases to predict security risks and propose preventive measures, so that organizations can continuously evaluate their security measures to protect economic interests and ensure compliance with international regulations. By encouraging companies to implement these standards in the supply chain process, countries will be able to maintain maximum security while making better use of government resources.

In fact, the ISO 28000 series of standards provide security guidelines for government customs, including the standard framework for global trade security and facilitation formulated by the World Customs Organization (WCO), the European Union Qualified Economic Operator Program (AEO), and the United States Customs - Commerce and Trade Counter-Terrorism Trading Partner, International Maritime Organization (IMO) International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.

According to the report of the International Maritime Organization's Safety Committee in 2007: "After the release of the ISO 28000 series of standards, numerous airports, customs and related companies have passed third-party certification."
